The pleasure of online food shopping
While I absolutely adore casually wandering around a farmers market collecting our seasonal produce for the week, meeting the growers and producers and enjoying some sunshine, sometimes life has not afforded the time or commitment this takes, and sometimes it is just cold, raining and I don't want to get out of my pajamas. After going every weekend while working full time this started to become a chore. I am not the biggest fan of chores.
Once we birthed our son Albie in the heart of winter my wandering around the farmers market days were over. While sitting at home in my pajamas breastfeeding Albie I investigated online supermarket shopping. The fee at the time for delivery was $13 and we literally live 1km from the big mall with the supermarket, so this seemed a little drastic. I was also disillusioned to eat conventionally grown produce. After healing my thyroid eating organically and wanting to put the very best into our new born son I had the genius idea to create an online farmers market where you could shop from the comfort of home for all your organic produce and wholefoods needs for the week. And Mount Wholefoods was born.
After 12 months of trading I revisited online shopping at the supermarket as I found the weekly supermarket shop to be a very boring chore, and I would much rather be hanging out with my family or working, anything but pushing that trolley around with a demanding toddler wanting to eat all the conveniently placed crappy snack items, cleverly marketed to both of us. A few wonderful customers had pointed out to me the amazing $5 pick up option. Shop online, drive to the outside of the big mall and grab the groceries from the little back door. This has literally changed my life. It is the best $5 I spend all week. This is why I love online food shopping.
You don't have to go to the supermarket. It was one of those chores for me where I was going at 10am on a Sunday and found myself not actually in there until 5pm on a Sunday. That I am sure is the worst day and time for supermarket shopping.
You don't need to take your children to the supermarket.
You do not get tempted to buy anything you don't need, clever marketing tactics be gone.
You save money - I forgot to order the other week as we went away and it was so much more expensive than my normal weekly shop. Clever clever product placement supermarket.
You don't need a list, you are in your home shopping so can get up and check the cupboard or fridge.
You can easily avoid processed food and find the real food online easier.
You save time.
If you remember to ask them every week for cardboard boxes instead of plastic bags you don't have to deal with all those nasty plastic bags. Once I forgot and we received 13 plastic bags for our $100 worth of groceries.
I do all my food shopping online. Supermarket for basics, Mount Wholefoods for produce and wholefood items and The organic farm in Hawke's Bay for our meat. Happy online shopping and happy time saving.
